Helen O’Shea

Senior Paralegal

For Helen O’Shea, migration is more than a profession—it is a lifelong commitment to helping people build new lives and opportunities in Australia.

Drawing on more than two decades of experience in immigration, government administration, compliance, and migration practice, Helen brings a rare depth of knowledge and real-world insight to her role as Senior Paralegal at Playfair Visa and Migration Services. Her career journey has taken her from frontline casework and policy development within the Australian Department of Immigration to supporting clients through some of the most important decisions of their lives in private migration practice.

Throughout her 22-year career with the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, Helen held a variety of leadership, operational, and specialist roles. She managed the NSW Monitoring Program, worked in compliance and status resolution, handled complex protection and ministerial intervention matters, and represented Australia overseas as a Senior Migration Officer in Moscow, Manila, and Hong Kong. These experiences gave her a unique global perspective and a deep appreciation of the personal stories behind every migration journey.

What truly sets Helen apart is her ability to balance technical expertise with genuine empathy. She understands that behind every visa application is a person, a family, a dream, or a future waiting to unfold. Clients value her calm, reassuring approach, her attention to detail, and her willingness to guide them through what can often feel like an overwhelming process. Whether assisting skilled professionals, family migrants, or businesses, Helen is committed to providing practical support with professionalism and care.

A passionate advocate for lifelong learning, Helen recently completed a Postgraduate Degree in Australian Migration Law at Western Sydney University with a distinction average, building on her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science from Monash University. Her academic background in Russian, International Relations, Politics, and History reflects a lifelong interest in global affairs, cultures, and the movement of people across borders. She is also fluent in Russian, allowing her to connect with and support clients from a broad range of cultural backgrounds.

Outside of her professional achievements, Helen is known for her warmth, integrity, and genuine interest in people. A mother of four children as well as three rescue kitties, Helen enjoys bushwalking, travel and cake making. She believes that migration is about more than visas and regulations—it is about creating opportunities, reuniting families, supporting business, and helping individuals realise their aspirations.
