George Lombard

Special Counsel

George Lombard is a Principal Solicitor at PLAYFAIR and a highly esteemed expert in migration law, with more than 20 years of experience as a registered migration agent. Recognised as a Fellow of the Migration Institute of Australia, George has contributed extensively to the profession through training and Continuous Professional Development for MIA members since 2003. His expertise spans a vast scope of visa types, including but not limited to global and distinguished talent visas.

A former Legal Officer with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, George has also served in the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department and as a Social Security Appeals Tribunal Member. His commitment to social justice is evident in his work as a Consultant for the Australian Council for Overseas Aid and in his publications on Australian migration policies in The Canberra Times.

Admitted to the roll of Barristers of the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1985 and later as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory, George graduated with Honours in Law and holds a Graduate Diploma in Public Law. George is a member of the national board of the MIA and has been a member of the Board of STARTTS, a leading refugee therapy organisation in NSW for 26 years. He speaks Bengali, German and French, reflective of his dedication to effective information flows between government departments and the migration advice industry. As a passionate AFL supporter, George continues to await the elusive St Kilda premiership with unwavering hope.
