Important Update: Changes to Skilled Migration Salary Thresholds in Australia
This is an important update regarding skilled migration in Australia. Effective 1 July 2025, the Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT), formerly known as the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT), willincrease to $76,515. Similarly, the Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT) will increase from $135,000 to $141,210 from next financial year.
The CSIT adjustment follows the recent indexation measures that occurred on 1st of July 2023, when the TSMIT rose from $53,900 to $70,000 and again to $73,150 on 1 July 2024.
It is critical to note that these thresholds apply to subclass 482 nominations lodged on or after 1st of July 2025 – effectively the deadline for completing all relevant procedures, including labour market testing where relevant. Applications lodged up to the 30th of June will be processed under the current CSIT (and SSIT) thresholds.
What is the CSIT?
The CSIT sets the minimum market salary rate that must be paid to temporary skilled migrants who are sponsored by employers under the Core Skills stream of the Skills in Demand Visa. This measure is intended to ensure that wages align with market rates, preventing underpayment and exploitation, whilst simultaneously maintaining the integrity of Australia’s skilled migration program.
