MIGRATION ANNOUNCEMENT: TSMIT Salary Increase & Expanded Permanent Residence Pathways

In changes announced on Friday, employers will be able to sponsor their temporary employees sooner for permanent residence as well as sponsoring those who were not previously eligible.

Permanent Residence Pathways expanded for Employer Nominations

All subclass 482 visa holders, regardless of occupation list, will now be eligible for the subclass 186 Temporary Residence Transition visa sponsored by their employers. The visa eligibility criteria will also be reduced from 3 years of 482 sponsored employment to 2 years, allowing employees access to permanent residency sooner and reducing costs of long-term sponsorships. These changes will be implemented by the end of 2023.

Temporary Skilled Income Threshold (TSMIT) Increase

Further to our previous media release, the TSMIT will increase from AUD53,900 to AUD70,000 on 1 July 2023. All nominations with a salary lower than AUD70,000 lodged prior to 1 July 2023 will be honoured.

From 1 July 2023, new nominations lodged will be required to meet the new TSMIT of AUD70,000 OR the annual market salary rate for the occupation, whichever salary of the two is higher.
