MIGRATION ANNOUNCEMENT: Increase in 482 Minimum Salary

Following the recent announcement last week from The Minister for Home Affairs (Claire O’Neill MP,) employers may need to consider recruitment and employment strategies and timing to minimise any negative impact.

The announcement signifies an overhaul of the migration program, with one significant ramification for businesses being the minimum salary for 482 visa holders, theso-called TSMIT, increasing to A$70,000.

The press release indicates that the increase will take place from 1 July 2023 but it does not indicate how this increase is going to be phased in with respect to existing nomination or visa applications; nor what additional labour market testing may be required if any, and what might be the impact on existing Labour Agreements or new Labour Agreements in process.
