Annabelle is a solicitor and registered migration agent who joined Playfair in 2016. She works as a Claims Assistance Provider at the Manus Island Regional Processing Centre, and onshore providing advice and assistance to highly vulnerable onshore asylum seekers as part of Playfair’s PAIS team. Annabelle is based in Brisbane.
Prior to her appointment with Playfair, Annabelle worked as a Refugee Case Officer with Asylum Access Thailand, providing advice and representation to urban asylum seekers and refugees taking part in the Refugee Status Determination (RSD) process before the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Bangkok. In that role, she acted as senior legal caseworker and specialised in representing survivors of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), Unaccompanied Minors (UAMs) and those with complex mental and physical health needs.
Prior to working at Asylum Access Thailand, Annabelle spent a year travelling overland with her husband, hitchhiking and camping mostly, from London to Tehran. They travelled the reverse route to many of the asylum seekers now seeking safety in Europe from places like Syria, so saw first-hand the flow of people as they went from Greece to Turkey and down to the border with Syria and Iraq. This experience cemented Annabelle’s drive to work in the refugee and human rights field.
Annabelle holds a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Laws and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Australian National University.
